Climathon Malta has been running since 2016! We are looking forward to another successful event later this year!

In 2020, we went online and the Challenge was on sustainable tourism, led by the Ministry for Environment, Climate Change and Planning (MECP). The winning solution was an app which has been developed with support from the MECP: Merhba. The Challenge for 2021 will be spearheaded by the Environment and Resources Authority and focused on plastic waste. 

In 2021, we braved the in-person waters once more! The ultimate prize was placement into our MED ClimAccelerator Programme, the equivalent of €5K. The winning team will work on implementing their solution as a startup in 2022 through this programme which provides funding, training and support to early-stage startups. 

But it’s not the prize that should be the selling point of the international movement, it’s the unique sense of community and networking to arrive at the necessary solutions we need to make real change, and it’s the Challenge Owners (entities that define challenges to be solved), stakeholders and partners taking part to bring the winning solutions into fruition.
