EIT Climate-KIC Malta Hub

Dear partners, colleagues and friends,

Until the end of 2022, we at EIT Climate-KIC relied on this RIS Hub to be our national ‘focal point’. As of January 2023, we moved towards a more comprehensive approach covering all RIS countries. Therefore, we closed our RIS Hubs, and we will rely on the National Secretaries who will run EIT Community Hubs in all RIS countries. The National Secretaries will be selected in the course of the next three years, and they will support us to continue working together with you (for more information on the National Secretaries, please see the RIS Hubs Minimum Standards and Guiding Principles).

Last but not least, we would like to express our deepest gratitude to all of you for the commitment, professionalism, and creativity you have brought and for your relentless work to keep pushing for climate innovation. We wouldn’t have achieved our impact without you!

Climathon

Journey

Malta proudly acted as the hosting partner in 2021 of a European summer school for Masters students to analyse and come up with solutions for local challenges in the blue economy.

MED ClimAccelerator

MED ClimAccelerator is a unique accelerator falling under Climate-KIC’s ClimAccelerator scheme whose core aim is to support sustainable and cleantech startups, resulting in measurable and tangible solutions towards climate change mitigation and adaptation.

Young Innovators

Young Innovators (YI) took off in Malta for the first time in 2021. It trains teachers in systems thinking using visual tools which are then introduced to students, enabling a transition to green jobs and carbon neutral lifestyles.

The Regional Innovation Scheme (RIS) is the EIT Climate-KIC flagship initiative active across countries in Southern and Central Eastern Europe. The EIT RIS is designed as a long-term initiative to strengthen the national and regional innovation ecosystems of countries that are moderate and modest innovators, based on the EU Innovation Scoreboard. The overarching mission is to contribute to the advancement of the climate adaptation and mitigation goals enabling the innovation performance of these countries and regions by strengthening the capacity of their innovation enablers and actors and linkages among them (such as business accelerators, incubators, start-ups, scale-ups, businesses including SMEs, agencies, educational and research institutions and their infrastructures, etc.) through facilitated cooperation at local, national and regional level. EIT Climate-KIC RIS programme offers a concrete way to design, build and deliver mission-oriented portfolios of interconnected programmes on skills development and learning, entrepreneurship, and innovation to catalyse fast decarbonisation, deliver future-proof jobs, generate new markets aligned to 1.5° and drive forward adaptation and resilience.
